What is
Glyco-Thymoline?
A
family tradition since 1894, Glyco-Thymoline (Glyco) is the
original alkaline mouthwash and gargle. Glyco was developed by
pharmacists to combat the adverse effects of the increasingly acidic
diets associated with the American industrial era. For over a
century, physicians and dentists around the world have recommended
Glyco as an important part of a good oral health program. As an
alkaline antiseptic, Glyco’s unique formula combines the natural
properties of eucalyptol, menthol, thymol and pine oil to produce a
clean refreshing feeling. The oral health benefits of Glyco have
withstood the test of time and include:
Kills
germs and eliminates bad breath
The alkalinizing nature of Glyco reduces germs which fester in an
acidic environment. As such, Glyco reduces oral acidity, kills
germs and eliminates bad breath. The formula is unique in that it is
not only an antiseptic, but an alkaline antiseptic or cleansing
solution.
Prevents and fights gingivitis
The effectiveness of Glyco in reducing inflammation in the mouth became
evident in the early 20th century as cited in several medical journals
(eg. Wisconsin Medical Journal, 1904; Buffalo Medical Journal,
1905). The anti-inflammatory effects of Glyco make the product an
excellent choice in the fight against gum disease, the most common
being gingivitis. Gingivitis, or inflammation of the gums, is usually
caused by bacterial plaque. Daily use of Glyco as part of an oral
hygiene program, including brushing, flossing and regular professional
cleanings, can both prevent and fight gingivitis.
Soothes tender gums and sore throats
Symptoms of gingivitis include swollen gums and sore mouths.
Glyco is extremely gentle and soothing. Glyco has been called
“The Great Throat Normalizer”, reducing sore throats and soothing
inflamed tonsils and tender gums. The glycerine in the mouthwash acts
as a soothing balm to irritated membranes. In addition, Glyco
contains approximately one fifth of the amount of alcohol than other
leading brands of mouthwash. Thus, Glyco’s formula is gentle
enough for tender gums.
Reduces mucosity
Glyco has long been recognized as a product which reduces mucous.
Originally described as “an ideal cleansing fluid of the correct
specific gravity to promote osmosis, thus detaching mucous crusts and
mucous”, Glyco was once used as the exclusive product for eliminating
mucosity by hundreds of physicians and throat and nose hospitals
Instructions for use of
Glyco-Thymoline
- Oral Hygiene
Use as a gargle, spray or rinse, diluted or full strength. Use
Glyco-Thymoline daily in the morning and evening or as often as needed.
- Teeth
Use one part Glyco-Thymoline to two parts water (full strength if
desired) for cleansing between teeth with a swishing action.
- Dentures
Use as a mouthwash, one part Glyco-Thymoline to two parts water, to
cleanse mouth after removal of dentures for a refreshing, clean
feeling. Brush or soak dentures in equal parts of Glyco-Thymoline and
water to cleanse appliance.
- Bad Breath
Use equal parts of Glyco-Thymoline and water (full strength if desired)
as a gargle or rinse for clean, fresh breath.
- Sore Throat
Use one part Glyco-Thymoline to two parts water and spray or gargle to
soothe and cleanse irritated membranes.
- Mucosity
Gargle, spray or rinse, diluted or full strength, as often as needed to
reduce mucous.
Other
Suggestions:
- Personal Hygiene
Use equal parts Glyco-Thymoline and water to cleanse external anal and
genital areas. Apply with soft cloth.
- Poison
ivy, Stings, Bites, or Burns
Soak cloth with full strength Glyco-Thymoline and apply to affected
area.
- Sunburns
and Chapped Skin
Freely apply a solution of equal parts Glyco-Thymoline and water with a
soft sponge or soft linen cloth to sunburned area. For chapped skin,
apply full strength with a sponge or soft cloth. Also, apply to face
after shaving for a cool refreshing feeling.
- Stuffy
Nose
Use one part Glyco-Thymoline to two parts lukewarm water with an
atomizer to relieve congestion. Glyco-Thymoline gently washes the
sensitive membranes clear and removes irritants that may damage nasal
tissue.
- Mucous
Blocked Noses
Use one part Glyco-Thymoline with three to six parts warm water and
apply the solution to nasal passages two to three times daily.
Glyco-Thymoline removes excess mucous and washes away the objectionable
matter and germs that mucous contains.
- Eyewash
For tired itchy, irritated eyes add one part Glyco-Thymoline to three
parts warm water and rinse eyes. The eyewash will give you a
refreshingly clean, comfortable feeling.
- Baby’s
Skin
Saturate a soft cloth with equal parts Glyco-Thymoline and water.
Apply to baby’s buttocks and external genital areas to keep it clean
and sweet.
- Glyco
Packs
Glyco-Thymoline Packs can
be applied externally on skin to relieve congestion (sinus, throat,
and/or chest). Saturate three or four thicknesses of cotton cloth or a
washcloth with full strength Glyco-Thymoline. Effectiveness may
be increased with the use of heat. Cover Glyco-pack with plastic
and place a heating pad or hot water bottle on top. Hold pack
together with a towel and apply to affected area for 15 to 20 minutes.
