How the Pionair Works
The
technology
in your PIONAIRTM
System uses photocatalysis,
which is designed to oxidize organic odors, germs, and fungi in an
average room or office as rated on the module in use ( 350 sq. ft., 750
sq. ft., 1500 sq. ft., or Commercial.) Natural air purification is
performed by the UV light rays of the sun and ozone, which is produced
by thunderstorms. This is why air smells so fresh after a thunderstorm.
Ion generation occurs in nature from lightning and ultraviolet
radiation.
What are Ions and How Do They Work?

There is a "natural balance" maintained by
nature.
The ratio is approximately 6 positive ions to 5 negative ions.
Indoors, this ratio is off balance because of the abundance of positive
ions and the
lack of negative ions.
This
disruption of the natural balance is primarily caused by building
materials used
in the structures in which we spend 90% of our time. The
negative ion gives up its
charge to the pollutants such as dust,
pollen, bacteria, smoke, and formaldehyde.
This new negative particle
attracts positive particles until they become heavy enough
to fall out
of the air we breathe. This process is called "agglomeration".
Your
PIONAIR™ unit produces negative ions, duplicating this natural process,
thereby reducing these and other particles
in the
air.
The PIONAIR
technology
uses these natural methods by
creating ultraviolet light rays,
safe levels of ozone, and passive
negative ions as part of your air treatment process.
The other part of
the process is a catalyst made from Ti02 (titanium dioxide), that when
activated, generates hydroxyl radicals and super oxide ions. This
system is not an air filter.
It is an air purifier duplicating Nature's

How the Pionair Smart Pointe Works
The
new
SMART
POINTE system uses
the
same photocatalysis
technology as the standard PIONAIR system, but also generates active
negative ions. The SMART POINTE generates
negative ions much
faster,
which means there are more negative ions in the air to attach
to the
positively-charged particulate in the air. Because most allergens -
such as pollen,
pet dander, dust, dust
mites, and smoke - are
particulate, SMART POINTE units
are especially effective
at relieving
allergy symptoms sooner, while remaining equally
effective against
mold, bacteria, and normal household odors.
The
SMART POINTE contains a sensor that monitors the balance in the
electrical charge
of the area being treated. When the treated area
becomes balanced (the number of negative
and positive ions are equal),
the sensor automatically deactivates active ionization until
more
negative ions are needed. This prevents dust, smoke, and other
particulate from
adhering to (and discoloring) walls and other surface
areas.

Q. Which model do I

A. The PIONAIR is
engineered to treat different size areas. The
technology will go around
corners, but does not go through walls or
closed doors. The 350 models treat up to 350 sq. feet,
and are best for
single rooms, like offices or bedrooms. The 750 models treat up to 750
sq. feet,
and are best for combination rooms, like a kitchen/dining
room. The 1500 models treat up to 1500 sq. feet, and are best for large
open areas or most apartments or condos. You may want multiple units
for your home - especially if you have upstairs rooms. The PIONAIR is
lightweight, so you can easily move it from room to room.
Q. Where should I
locate
my PIONAIR system?
A. Many
pollutants, such as smoke, are lighter than air, and therefore,
rise. For best performance, locate your unit as high as possible,
usually 5-6 ft. above the floor. You may wish to locate your
unit where
odors are particularly offensive or strong, such as a smoking room,
kitchen, or near
a litterbox. Multiple units may be used for larger
areas with excellent results.
Q. How much ozone
does
the PIONAIR create? How much ozone in a confined
space is safe?
A. The PIONAIRs
generate a maximum of .04 parts-per-million within the
treatment area, which is below the FDA max output level for indoor
areas. So if you are running a PIONAIR 750 in a 750 sq. ft. room, it
will generate no more than .04 ppm of ozone.
Q. Does the unit need to
run all the time?
A. No, it does
not. Turning your unit on and off will not affect the
unit's performance or life span. Run your unit to reduce odors or
enhance the quality of the air. Many units are run continuously.
Q. Is there any
maintenance required?
A. No; only the replacement of your lamp module once a year.
Q. Can I use my unit to stop mold or mildew in a wet carpet or damp
basement?
A. Yes. Simply
turn your unit on and place it near the affected area. A
commercial high output
lamp module may be recommended for some
applications.
Q. What about my
clothes? Can I eliminate dry cleaning odors or smoke
smell?
A. Yes. Place
your unit in a closet with dry-cleaned or smoke filled
garments for one hour with
the door closed.
