Lactose Intolerance Indications

Break Down Fats

It is a proven fact the enzyme lipase breaks down (digests) fat. When added to your meal as a supplement it is able to do this in the digestive tract. This takes stress off the gallbladder, liver, and pancreas. When taken between meals, it will be stored in the liver and called upon as needed. Lipase is present in all of the Enzymedica Enzyme Fortifiers.

The pancreas produces about a liter and a half of digestive juices per day in an array of enzymes (protease, amylase, cellulase, lactase and lipase). Lipase is the enzyme designed to digest fats. With advancing age the body produces less and less digestive juice, about 13% less per decade of life.

For these same reasons, fat blockers such as Olean and Elestra are undesirable. They keep fat from being absorbed, but they also keep fatty nutrients from being available. Under-nutrition occurs in about half of the patients with chronic heart failure.

Fats are a major source of fuel for the heart muscle. The use of lipase has been suggested to improve fat absorption (Am J cardiology 8: 43, 1963). It was not until 1997 that researchers found that lipase also can help to control LDL cholesterol and is helpful in stubborn cases of high triglycerides. (Lipids 32: 1147, 1997).

Lipase Deficiency
Since lipase digests fat, fat-soluble vitamins and balances fatty acids, lipase deficient people can be expected to have a tendency towards high cholesterol, high triglycerides and difficulty losing weight. The active ingredient is a potent mucolytic enzyme which has been studied for its effectiveness at reducing mucus and is combined with proteases and amylases blended to assist in overcoming the symptoms often associated with sinus and chest congestion.

A proprietary blend containing the enzyme Nattokinase NSK-SD, which has been shown to have a high fibrinolytic activity (breaks down fibrin) and antioxidant activity.

Nattokinase breaks down Fibrin. Fibrin is a protein that forms in the blood after trauma or injury. This is essential to stop excess blood loss but excess fibrin has been shown to contribute to cardiovascular issues, poor circulation and slow tissue repair. There are more than twenty enzymes in the body that assist in clotting the blood, while only one that can break the clot down (plasmin).

Dr. Hiroyuki Sumi, M.D. (a.k.a, Dr. Natto) a researcher of the Japan Ministry of Education and majoring in the physiological chemistry at the blood laboratory of the University of Chicago, had long researched thrombolytic enzymes. He was searching for a natural agent that could successfully dissolve thrombus associated with cardiac and cerebral infarction (blood clots associated with heart attacks and stroke).
Nattokinase Proof: Blood Plasma Tests

Nattokinase has been the subject of 17 studies, including two small human trials. Researchers from JCR Pharmaceuticals, Oklahoma State University, and Miyazaki Medical College tested nattokinase on 12 healthy Japanese volunteers (6 men and 6 women, between the ages of 21 and 55).

They gave the volunteers 200 grams of natto (the food) before breakfast, then tracked fibrinolytic activity through a series of blood plasma tests.

The tests indicated that the natto generated a heightened ability to support circulation. On average, the volunteers'' ELT (a measure of how long it takes to dissolve a blood clot) dropped by 48 percent within two hours of treatment. An additional study showed a 11% decrease in blood pressure after just two weeks. 1,2,3

What is pH?

As humans, a normal pH of all tissues and fluids of the body (except the stomach) is slightly alkaline. The most critical pH is in the blood. All other organs and fluids will fluctuate in their range in order to keep the blood a strict pH between 7.35 and 7.45 (slightly alkaline). This process is called homeostasis. The body makes constant adjustments in tissue and fluid pH to maintain this very narrow pH range in the blood.

To be too acidic in the body can have far reaching consequences. For example, if the blood becomes too acidic the body will balance the pH at all costs. This can lead to common symptoms which include but are not limited to heart burn, acid reflux, indigestion, weight gain, difficulty losing weight, poor metabolism, mineral deficiencies, constipation, fatigue, brain fog, frequent urination, hormonal imbalances, sore muscles and the list goes on.

Similar problems may occur if we become too alkaline, though this is much less likely. Obviously, maintaining the proper pH in the blood, digestive tract, tissues and fluids is essential in supporting optimal health.

Proteolytic Enzymes Increase Circulation and Speed Recovery

Capillary Blood Flow - These small blood vessels are responsible for carrying oxygen and nutrients to the cells and removing waste. After an injury some of these capillaries may be damaged, making them incapable of carrying fluid to and from the damaged tissue. The result is pain, swelling, redness, heat and loss of function. By repairing the capillaries, the bruises, swelling and pain disappear.

Proteolytic enzymes (enzymes that have the ability to break down protein) have been shown to reduce the amount of fibrin in the damaged capillary, improve circulation and speed recovery. Once in the blood stream proteolytic enzymes hydrolyze (digest) the fibrin network and enhance blood flow. Additionally, these same proteases have been known to stimulate phagocytes (cells that ingest foreign particles and debris) and accelerate elimination by way of the lymphatic system.

Protease Enzymes Supplement Studies

In a recent study, runners were given protease supplements or a placebo four times a day for three days. This consisted of 24 hours before and 48 hours after running. The participants were evaluated for mood, muscle soreness and pain threshold 24 and 48 hours after running 30 minutes at about 7 miles per hour.

The result was a decrease in soreness, improved pain threshold and no mood change with those taking the proteolytic enzymes supplements over the group who took the placebo. This is not new.
